Giving Tuesday 2022 ... A Hopeful Start?

Every year nonprofits watch the days and weeks leading up to Giving Tuesday with bated breath for a sign that the upcoming giving season will be a successful one, and just the beginning of what’s to come in the immediate that weeks that follow leading up to December 31.

The last few years were even more nerve-wracking with COVID, elections, and dominating headlines threatening to steal the spotlight from this all-important day. However, most of us came out on top during ‘pandemic times’ – leaving us all on the hunt for a crystal ball to understand what we might see this year with worries of inflation and a potential looming recession.

Early results? We have reason to hope.

Most clients at Fuse Fundraising have declared Giving Tuesday 2022 a success – coming in ahead of last year in most cases and exceeding overall revenue expectations.  And, according to an article on the Chronicle of Philanthropy – this finding rings true for most - as Giving Tuesday 2022 raised an estimated $3.1 billion, up 15% over last year and up more than 25% over 2020!

One of our clients, within the Animal/Human Service sector raised an organizational record on Giving Tuesday this year, while another one of our partners in the Humanitarian sector reported their single best day of giving ever … the day after Giving Tuesday.

This leaves us optimistic about what the next few weeks will hold in terms of giving … though of course, not without caution.

One potential trend that we are seeing emerge out of Giving Tuesday, is a lower number of high dollar or major gifts when compared to the last few years. Perhaps due to lack of stimulus or less disposable income now that we’re back to “normal.”  Could this be an ongoing trend that organizations need to be prepared for?  The jury is still out, but we’ll be watching this trend very closely.

So, for now. With a successful Giving Tuesday behind us we are feeling positive going into the final push for this year, and we hope that you are too! Wishing all of our industry friends great success this giving season.

We’ll report back with a year-end fundraising recap early next year!
