Spring Cleaning: 5 Tips to Set Your Organization Up for Success

It’s that time of year again! The tease of warmer weather and the extra sunlight in the evenings are making us feel a little more productive and we’re more than ready to clean off that long, dark winter.

Spring cleaning shouldn’t be limited to just decluttering the basement or preparing your taxes. Now is the perfect time to set yourself and your organization up for success. We’ve compiled five ideas you could add to your organization’s to-do list this spring!

1. Refresh your website.

We know, you’ve been meaning to get to this! This season of refreshing and resetting is the perfect opportunity to set aside some time to dive into the depths of your website. Are your visuals outdated? How does your site look on mobile? While you’re at it, make sure your website is set up for Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO). Is it easy for donors to find the donate button on your site? Are your landing pages compelling and simple for donors to read and complete? Could it be time for a revamp of your site?

2. Fine tune your processes.

Take this time to review your processes and look for any opportunities to streamline and improve workflow. Do you have templates for certain projects and jobs set in place? Are you documenting your processes? Be sure to come back and review these occasionally, as continuous improvement is key for success.

3. Organize your office space.

After a full year of working from home, your office (sometimes referred to as a dining room or bedroom) probably could use a little attention. When was the last time you organized that growing collection of direct mail seeds? A clean environment is a productive environment!

4. Dust off the database.

Good data hygiene is essential. It may seem tedious, but the quality of your data can have a direct impact on the success of your organization. Be meticulous! Confirm donor information and be sure you are segmenting and deduping your file. Make sure you have regular hygiene processing in place – NCOA, deceased appends and email file cleansing should all be routinely completed.

5. And don’t forget to clean your email lists, too!

We know you are segmenting your email list… right?! If not, this should be a top priority! While you’re at it, are your donors’ email addresses up to date? What percentage of your file is inactive? Explore a reengagement campaign if you have a high number of inactive donors.

We won’t lie to you, these five things will require some dedicated time and effort, but we promise you’ll feel so much better once they’ve been completed! Cleaning up those loose ends will lead to efficiency and overall, the success of your program.
