Taking PRIDE in Giving Back
There are some pretty incredible organizations working every day to fight for social change when it comes to the LGBTQIA+ community, and if you’re looking for ways to give back this Pride Month, we’ve included some of our team’s favorites below for your consideration.
As a bonus, many of these organizations have matching gift campaigns running this month, meaning that you can make an even bigger impact when you give right now!
Capital Pride Alliance serves the needs of the LGBTQ+ year-round through educational programs, events, and fundraisers while providing a visible platform for many organizations and local businesses to celebrate and educate the multi-faceted community.
Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is the world’s largest Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) media advocacy organization and seeks to increase media accountability and community engagement to ensure authentic LGBTQ stories are seen, heard, and actualized.
Gay, Lesbian, & Straight Education Network (GLSEN) is a network of students, families and education advocates working to facilitate LGBTQ safety and support in schools.
Human Rights Campaign (HRC) inspires and engages individuals by creating a movement nearly 40 years ago for equality and to end discrimination against LGBTQ+ communities by ensuring everyone is treated as full and equal citizens.
Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) is the largest and oldest organization dedicated to improving the lives of elderly LGBTQ+ people and their caregivers. Donations help members work with legislators to inform them on LGBTQ+ aging issues in the hopes of changing policies and create safe spaces for LGBTQ+ older people to come together and feel welcome.
The Trevor Project seeks to end suicide among LGBTQ young people. Their services are 24/7 and always free. Your support will help reach the 1.8 million LGBTQ young people who need the support and services of the Trevor Project.
Trans Lifeline is the first-ever crisis hotline for trans people (established in 2014). With a monetary donation, you can help Trans Lifeline expand its programs to be even more diverse and inclusive of Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color.
We’d love to hear about any of your other favorite LGBTQIA+ organizations!
